2023 Primera Reserve Shiraz
The Reserve Range from Iron Gate Estate is carefully crafted using extended barrel aging. We reserve longer barrel aging for fruit from new & younger barrels , allowing us to develop greater depth, complexity, and character while preserving the fruit’s natural qualities.
The 2023 Hunter Valley vintage year had a wet run-up to flowering and then cool and lovely, clear weather right up to harvest.
The resultant wine is crimson/red in colour, with brambly, dark-berry compote, violets and savoury cherry aromas with notes of supporting oak. The medium weight palate follows through with blackberry and cherry fruit flavours, fine-grained silky tannins and a drying cinnamon oak finish.
This wine would complement duck in cherries, ham and mushroom pasta, or lamb casseroles.
